1. Urban Visionaries Show at the Des Moines Social Club - 7:00 PM - Close
The Urban Visionaries show focuses on urban artists from around the world. Artists such as Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Swoon, etc will be shown in the Viaduct Gallery. The opening night will feature, music, drinks, and lots of great art.
2. Riverview Artist Salon at the Des Moines Social Club
Riverview Artist Salon is a grass roots, volunteer funded and Member driven community of full time, part time, emerging and returning Iowa Creatives from all disciplines as well as businesses, organizations, educators and advocates of Iowa art and culture. In collaboration with the DMSC, please join us in the Culinary Loft for a themed evening of experimental programming including spoken word, film, synthesizer demo, live artist renderings and speakers representing local art advocacy and community outreach organizations. 3. Lillian Genth: "For the Good of My Soul" - The Garage at Salisbury House 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
This special exhibit considers the work of American artist Lillian Genth (1876-1953) during a consequential period in her career. Carl and Edith Weeks acquired at least ten works by Genth – the most by any single artist in the Weeks’ extensive collection. These works reflect both the extraordinary transition in Lillian Genth’s career and her friendship with Edith and Carl Weeks. Exhibit runs through August 20. 4. Wild Beasts at the Barnum Factory 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Chicken Tractor is proud to announce its contribution to Art Week Des Moines, a one-night exhibit of work by four of Iowa's most talented artists. These Iowa artists' works are deeply engaged in the relationship between predator and prey, honoring the lives and deaths of Iowa's wildlife with work describing the alertness required for survival and the artifacts and environments created by human violence. 6. Leona Ruby Hosts Christine Hilbert's Book Release Party 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Leona Ruby (400 E. Locust St, DSM) will be hosting the release of artist and jewelry designer Christine Hilbert's first children's book, Echo of the Star on Thursday June 22nd from 5-7 pm. The illustrations are inspired by her ongoing Heirloom Anthology series of watercolor paintings combined with vintage gems. Along with copies of Echo of the Star, Hilbert will also be displaying prints of the illustrations and original watercolors from the book. 8. eVenti Verticali 9:15 PM
Join us at the Des Moines Arts Festival's HyVee Main Stage for a free showing of eVenti Verticali's "WANTED." You have to see this spectacular vertical dance act sponsored by a leading retirement services company, Athene, to believe it. The Italian production company’s visual comedy show features video projections behind two artists suspended by rope while they play “cops and robbers” on a vertical stage.
