“Black trailblazers in Art and Film get their flowers at Art Week 2023”
JUNE 17TH DESCRIPTION: Immersive Black Cinema + Art
A multimedia collaboration by Jill Wells and Cameron Gray at xBk Live. You are invited to this free event created to engage audiences of ALL ages in celebrating black joy through double-feature film screenings, live music, exhibited artworks, and captivating talks. This immersive production honors premier filmmaker Erica Faye and Director Ryan Coogler. Iowa pianist Melvin Coleman Jr. will be paying homage to iconic Black performers throughout history, with intro and outro piano melodies to each film.
Exclusive double screening of two short films from the Iowa Motion Picture Association 2023 nominee Erica Faye. Faye is a writer, director, and actress and will present in person at the event to engage in an artist talk/ Q&A post-screening. These films were selected by Art Week Fellow Jill Wells for their powerful storytelling and inspirational messages.
Exclusive film screening of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) by Ryan Coogler. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a film about legacy, pride and grief; showing that through times of true grief we must persist as a people. This film was selected by Art Week Fellow Cameron Gray for its personal connection to his loss in life as well as the reminder of the beauty of our community and the spiritual healing power of community.
