Keo Way Billboard Display

This billboard displaying artwork by Jameson Malone will be viewable during the month of June in the southbound lane of Keo Way just north of the I-235 overpass.

Artist statement:

The emancipated spirit of celebrated Juneteenth is an engrained memory passed down for every Black American of all generations. It is hoped that this billboard art display resonates with the Black people of Des Moines as a reminder of connectedness through culture, and intuitive wisdom through history.

It is an honor for this work to be displayed near the historic Center Street – the prosperous community built up by Black residents in Des Moines that was divided and demolished after the initiated construction of I-235 in the 1950s.
