Des Moines, IA– June 8, 2015 – A new multi-day festival celebrating local artists debuts June 22-28.  Art Week Des Moines is designed to generate excitement for local art culture the week leading up to the annual Des Moines Arts Festival®, which kicks off at the conclusion of Art Week Des Moines.

Art Week co-creators David Safris and Liz Adelman worked with the community to encourage groups to host a variety of events during the week such as public art tours, special restaurant dinners, gallery shows, lectures, film screenings and a public art installation. The aim is to bring people together to participate in the Des Moines arts scene and to support artists across all genres.

“Art Week will be an exciting time for our community,” said Liz Adelman, co-creator of Art Week Des Moines and owner of Adelman PR. “It’s a great way to interact with people and businesses in Des Moines while enjoying world-class art in a variety of different ways. Where else can you see work art by iconic urban street artists or watch a mural being painted during happy hour? Whether you’re interested in well-known artists or those on the way up, Art Week will have something for everyone.”

The idea for Art Week Des Moines originated during the 2014 Urban Visionaries show presented by Safris’ company, Visionary Services, which opened the Friday of the Des Moines Arts Festival at the Des Moines Social Club. The buzz generated from that show led him to believe Art Week Des Moines can provide a way for community members and artists to work together. “We challenged members of the community and businesses to be creative in how they participate in Art Week. It offers an opportunity to partner with new people in new ways, and to celebrate all Des Moines has to offer,” he said.

Events are scheduled for each night during Art Week Des Moines, with more being added each day. Check out their website at www.artweekdesmoines and click on “events” for a full listing of everything planned.
